This policy covers Funkel Scout – LinkedIn Fit Score & Opener, a Chrome extension from Funkel AI. Until version 1.2.1 the extension was named Funkel AI Signal Spotter. This policy applies from version 2.0.0.
Purpose
Funkel Scout helps you decide if a LinkedIn profile fits your buyer, and writes a first message for that person. It has one purpose: a fit score and an opener for the LinkedIn profile that is open in your active tab.
Funkel Scout does not send messages or connection requests. It does not call a LinkedIn API, and it does not collect profiles in the background or in bulk.
Two modes
AI mode uses Funkel Engine, the Funkel AI service at engine.funkel.ai. The extension sends data to it only when you paste your website, click Check, ask for an opener, or click Upgrade or Send your leads.
Local mode makes no server calls. It writes a template opener in your browser. No profile data leaves your browser.
What the extension reads on LinkedIn
When the side panel is open on a LinkedIn profile page (linkedin.com/in/…), the extension reads the visible profile in the active tab: the profile URL, name, headline, location, current roles with their dates, the About text, and text that you select on the page. It reads the profile again when you change to another profile tab.
Reading happens in your browser. It sends nothing. The extension does not read private messages, form fields, cookies, passwords, or hidden page data. It does not read pages other than LinkedIn profile pages, and it does not access your browsing history.
What goes to Funkel Engine
Setup. When you paste your website, the extension sends that URL. Funkel Engine reads the public page (directly or through the Jina Reader service) and makes a buyer profile: your product, the job titles and companies that buy it, and their problems.
Check. When you click Check, the extension sends the profile details listed above and your buyer profile. Funkel Engine returns a fit score, the reasons, signals with quotes from the profile, and an opener. Each casual or formal opener that you ask for sends the same data again.
Funkel Engine sends this text to its AI provider to make the result. The provider is currently Microsoft Azure. Funkel Engine does not store the profile text or the openers from a check. Its logs contain only metadata: the type of request, the AI model, the number of tokens, and the time.
Upgrade and Send your leads (from version 2.1). When you click Upgrade, or Send your leads if you already use Funkel AI, the extension sends your buyer profile and your saved leads (at most 100) to Funkel Engine and gives you a Funkel AI link. If you do not use the link, it expires after 7 days and the data is deleted in our next daily cleanup. After Funkel AI imports the leads, Funkel Engine keeps its copy for 24 hours in case the import must be retried, then deletes it in the next daily cleanup. In Funkel AI, the app privacy policy applies.
Accounts, credits, and sign-in
Without an account, the extension gets an anonymous device token from Funkel Engine with 5 free credits. Funkel Engine keeps a hash of that token, a hash of your IP address (to limit new devices), and the credits used.
You can sign in with Google or LinkedIn for 25 free credits a month. Sign-in opens the provider's own page in a Chrome window. Funkel Engine then keeps your email address, name, profile picture URL, and the provider account ID. It also keeps the buyer profile that you made, so you do not need setup again on another device or on funkel.ai. Funkel Engine never gets your Google or LinkedIn password.
What stays in your browser
Your settings, the buyer profile, your Funkel Engine tokens, and your saved leads are encrypted with AES-GCM before they go into the extension's local storage. The key stays in the extension's IndexedDB in your Chrome profile. No password is needed.
A saved lead is stored only when you click Save lead. It can contain the profile URL, name, headline, location, roles, the fit score, reasons and signals, the opener, and the date. You can save at most 100 leads.
Results of recent checks stay in Chrome's session storage, so you see them again when you go back to a tab. Chrome deletes session storage when you close the browser.
CSV export
Export CSV writes your saved leads to a file on your device. The file uses the Funkel AI people-import format. If you import the file into Funkel AI, Funkel AI's app privacy policy applies to it.
Sharing and use
We do not sell data. We do not use data for advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles. We share data only with the service providers that run Funkel Engine: Cloudflare (hosting and database), the AI provider, Jina Reader for website pages, and Google or LinkedIn for sign-in. We use the data only to give you fit scores and openers, to count your credits, and to move your buyer profile and saved leads to Funkel AI when you ask.
Permissions
sidePanel shows the extension in Chrome's side panel. scripting runs the packaged profile reader in the active LinkedIn tab. storage keeps the encrypted settings, saved leads, and session results. identity opens the Google or LinkedIn sign-in window.
Site access to https://www.linkedin.com/* lets the extension read the profile in the active tab, also after you change tab. Site access to https://engine.funkel.ai/* lets it call Funkel Engine. All extension code is in the package. The extension loads no remote code.
Your controls
- Use local mode in Settings to stop all server calls.
- Delete a saved lead in Saved leads, or click Delete all local data in Settings.
- Sign out in Settings. Sign-out ends the session on Funkel Engine.
- Uninstall the extension to remove all its local data. Exported files stay until you delete them.
- To delete your Funkel Engine account and its buyer profile, email [email protected].
Limited use
Funkel Scout's use of data follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Funkel Scout uses data only for its single purpose. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by LinkedIn.
