Signal Spotter privacy policy

Last updated: September 9, 2026

This policy covers Funkel AI Signal Spotter, a Chrome extension from Funkel AI. It explains local scans, optional saves, and the optional Send to Funkel AI import flow. Version 1.1.0 handles briefs locally. The connection and side panel described here apply to the upcoming version 1.2.0.

Purpose and scope

Signal Spotter turns one visible English LinkedIn profile into a reusable local brief. The brief can include visible facts, source evidence, user notes, and an editable local opener.

Data the extension handles

The extension handles visible profile content and personal data from the selected profile. This can include the name, headline, location, current roles, displayed dates, About text, and selected evidence. A requested scan also reads the selected profile URL.

You can add a clearly labelled manual passage when LinkedIn omits or delays a section. You can also add notes, an opener, optional seller context, and user-entered CSV export fields.

Local saves and controls

Scanning and drafting do not save profile data automatically. Only an explicit Save locally action stores a brief or seller context in local extension storage.

Saved records can include the selected profile URL and scan date. They can also include facts, evidence, source labels, user edits, notes, and opener text. The extension stores at most 100 saved briefs.

The Saved view supports update, copy, export, delete, and clear controls. You control local records and can remove them through these controls.

Local encryption

Saved briefs and seller context are encrypted automatically with AES-GCM before local storage. The key stays in extension-origin IndexedDB within your Chrome profile. No password, account, or extra configuration is required.

The key lets saved briefs reopen automatically. Clear all saved data removes the encrypted data and key.

Optional Send to Funkel AI

Free offline briefs work without a Funkel AI connection. After you select Connect, the side panel requests access to https://api.funkel.ai/*. The side panel requires Chrome 116 or newer.

You enter a user-created personal access token in a masked field. The extension encrypts the token and connection settings in the local vault. The service worker sends the token to the Funkel AI API to authenticate app, list, and import requests. It never places the token in content scripts, logs, errors, analytics, or CSV files.

You choose an owner app and an existing or new list by visible names. You choose selected saved briefs or all saved briefs. An explicit import uploads selected profile fields and the labelled brief through the exact CSV format. The upload can include facts, evidence, source, date, notes, and opener text.

Imported data becomes part of your selected Funkel AI list. Funkel AI's app privacy policy applies to that data. The version 1.2.0 update will show the research in the contact's Imported brief section. Sending a brief does not send messages or enroll the contact in a campaign.

CSV export

CSV export stays on your device until you delete the file. It contains contact fields and one labelled brief.

If you manually import the file into Funkel AI, you upload its contents to Funkel AI. Funkel AI's app privacy policy then applies. The app retains the research as import data. It does not use the opener automatically.

Transmission and access

During scanning, drafting, saving, and exporting, the extension makes no remote calls or data transfers. It sends selected saved profile fields to Funkel AI only after an explicit import. It sends no profile data to LinkedIn or another third party. The Funkel AI team cannot access local data unless you import it.

The extension does not access Chrome browsing history, monitor browsing, or collect pages in the background. It also does not read hidden page data, cookies, website credentials, private messages, or LinkedIn form fields. It does not sell data, use data for advertising, or build advertising profiles.

Disconnect removes the token and connection settings but keeps local briefs. Clear all removes local briefs, credentials, encrypted data, and the vault key. Neither action deletes data already imported into Funkel AI.

Permissions

activeTab grants temporary access to the selected tab after your scan request. scripting runs the packaged detector in that tab. The result interface opens in the full-height side panel.

sidePanel displays the interface in Chrome 116 or newer. storage stores records and encrypted connection settings after explicit actions. The service worker handles API requests. The optional host permission covers only https://api.funkel.ai/*. The extension uses no remote code.

Limited use

Funkel AI uses this data only to provide Signal Spotter's single purpose. We transfer profile data only to Funkel AI after explicit import. We do not use profile data for advertising or sale. The extension uses no remote AI or analytics.

Your controls and contact

Use the Saved view to update, copy, export, delete, or clear saved records. Unsaved scan data remains temporary and does not enter local storage. Uninstalling the extension removes its local storage. Copied and exported files stay until you delete them.
